Mattia Logrippo wins the ITF Junior Tournament in Szczecin; Virginia Proietti is eliminated in the semifinals
Mattia Logrippo capped off his perfect week in Poland by winning the ITF Junior Tour tournament in Szczecin, a J60-level event held on indoor hard courts, the “Magnolia Cup.” Logrippo, the reigning Italian Under-16 champion and a student at the Galimberti Tennis Academy, defeated Poland’s Juliusz Stanczyk (No. 2) 6-2, 6-2 in the quarterfinals, another Polish player, Jan Skrzynski (qualifier), 6-2, 6-4 in the semifinals, and 6-3 in the final, 6-3 against Alessandro Maina, a former student of the Academy in Cattolica.
In the women’s draw, Virginia Proietti—another player who trains at the Galimberti Tennis Academy (like Logrippo)—made a strong showing as the No. 5 seed, defeating Denmark’s Anna Brandt Schultz 6-2, 6-2 in the round of 16 and the Czech Republic’s Veronika Navratilova (No. 4) 6-3, 6-3, before falling 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 to England’s Anna Boron, the No. 6 seed. The players were accompanied to Poland by coach Federico Bertuccioli.
